Joel Salatin
Joel Salatin an American local food advocate and producer, who has led the way in eco-food production for over 40 years.
His books are inspirational, innovative, highly practical, and are a must read for any New Zealand farmer who wants to make a positive difference to his surrounding environment and community.
In 2010, Joel visited New Zealand, running a hugely successful workshop in the Hawkes Bay region in November, which demonstrated that ecological farming without agrichemicals or synthetic fertilisers is not only possible, but is highly profitable if done correctly.
Joel supplies his local area only, adhering to the principle that if anyone else wants his product, they will have to travel to him, making an effort to support the producer as best they can. It has been publicised that people will travel up to 500 miles across America to support Joel Salatin and his family.
In February 2013, Wanaka Organics had the pleasure of hosting Joel Salatin's two day workshop at Glendhu Station.
