Organic Beef
In the future, we would love to supply our local community with fresh organically raised beef.
Glendu Station has a long history of producing fine quality beef, dating back to the start of the last century, and our family is still passionate about this today.
Our beef breed at present is mainly Hereford although we are slowly shifting towards Angus. Annually, six hundred Hereford and Angus cows are mated, including our heifer’s. We currently sell most of our calves store to other properties and fatten a small percentage for Canterbury Meat Packers in Ashburton, who are a proactive company that support the production of organic beef in NZ.
We have been inspired by other eco farmers around the world and here in New Zealand, who have achieved a truly sustainable local food link with their communities. Wanaka Organics is researching ways to have our beef slaughtered in a humane local NZFSA acredited abattoir, supplying a local butcher with the waste, either to be worm farmed or composted, to create community fertiliser.
